Games for a better democratic society:
Playing SIM-Democracy in South-East Asia
The paper was presented at UNESCO MGIEP Transforming Education Conference for Humanity (TECH) 2019.
The Story behind the article:
Having first played this board game with students way back in 2014 as part of after-school extra-curricular activities, I began to notice that they took a liking to it. Soon it became a regular feature not only for my students but also for those from other grades. Over the course of several sessions, we modified the game for the Indian context by creating situation cards that were relevant to us.
After playing the game for several years with learners from primary to university , I also realised that it is an effective tool to hone 21st century skills like collaboration and critical thinking.
