Language Researcher
Cultural Mediator
Game Enthusiast
A cultural mediator by profession and a traveller by choice, I find it fascinating to be immersed in culturally rich and diverse terrains. The pragmatist in me, finds ways to facilitate the osmosis of culture in the courses that I teach and the products that I create. Language after all reflects the culture of the people who speak it. And what better way to humanise the Other than by looking at the world through the Other’s lens, while perhaps dreaming about a piping hot masala chai and a buttery croissant.
Cultural experiences stick with you and like faithful friends, they help you find your centre of gravity amidst the minstrel of otherness. I therefore, fundamentally believe that language classrooms should be like hangout spaces with friends: fun spaces which are incubators for simulated cultural experiences. Being a proponent of experiential learning, I gravitate towards curating experiences through games and simulations for my learners. Thus, it comes as no surprise that my favourite expression after ‘Pourquoi Pas?!’ is ‘Let’s play!’
